East Elgin Community Complex

Athletic Recognition

Every year, the East Elgin Community Complex takes time to recognize the remarkable individuals who contribute to our community through athletic achievement or exceptional service. Whether it’s a local athlete who has gone above and beyond in their sport, or a volunteer who helps make the East Elgin Community Complex a welcoming place for all, we want to celebrate their efforts.

We invite community members to submit nominations in the following categories:

  • EECC Sports Hall of Recognition
  • EECC Athletic Excellence Award
  • EECC Athletic Excellence Community Recognition Event
EECC Sports Hall of Recognition

The East Elgin Community Complex Sports Hall of Recognition celebrates local athletes and sport builders who have made outstanding contributions to sport, both on and off the field. Induction events are held every two years, provided there are at least three qualifying nominees. Inductees are honoured with a permanent plaque at the EECC.

Who can be nominated?

  • Athletes – Must have competed in their sport with the EECC as their home venue for at least one full season, and achieved excellence at a local, regional, national, or international level.
  • Builders of Sport – Includes coaches, officials, executives, or volunteers whose long-term contributions have advanced sport at the EECC in a significant way.

Both categories consider local ties and character, and posthumous nominations are accepted.

Nominations may be submitted until October 1st in any given year.

EECC Athletic Excellence Award

The EECC Athletic Excellence Awards celebrate the achievements of local athletes, teams, officials, and volunteers who have reached the podium at the provincial, national, or international level. Awards are presented annually at a designated meeting of the EECC Board of Management.

Who can be nominated?

  • Athletes or Teams – Must have earned gold, silver, or bronze at a sanctioned provincial, national, or international event during the most recent season, with the EECC as their home centre.
  • Officials or Volunteers – May also be recognized for significant roles in medal-winning achievements.

There is no age restriction for nominees.

Successful nominees will be invited to attend a public Board meeting to receive a certificate of achievement.

EECC Athletic Excellence Community Recognition Event

In exceptional cases, the East Elgin Community Complex may host a special recognition event for individuals or teams who have achieved extraordinary athletic accomplishments that fall outside the timelines of the EECC’s regular awards programs.

Who Qualifies?

This recognition is reserved for remarkable, high-level achievements, such as:

  • Winning the Stanley Cup
  • Competing in the Olympics
  • Earning a PWHL championship
or other comparable accomplishments at the pinnacle of sport.

All nominations are reviewed by a subcommittee of the EECC Board of Management. While submission does not guarantee recognition, approved nominees will be honoured at a dedicated community event hosted at the EECC.
